Bengal Pride Ambassadors
FVMS Bengal Pride Ambassadors include a group of eighth grade students representing Fuquay-Varina Middle as role models to encourage, support and promote a safe and caring school environment. Ambassador activities include character education, conflict mediation, leadership skills, presenting a positive school environment, helping new students adjust to FVMS and interacting with the community. School sponsor is Ms. Phillips, 6th grade school counselor. All ambassadors need to check the Bengal Pride Ambassadors Information Board located in the School Counseling Office for meeting times and project assignments.
Beta Club
The Beta Club promotes character, develops leadership skills, encourages service involvement and recognizes achievement. Membership is by invitation to students who have shown moral and ethical character, maintain a 3.5 Grade Point Average, and have a commendable attitude. The Beta Club meets the first Tuesday of each month. The club elects officers who lead the meetings. All members are expected to complete 40 hours of community service. The sponsor is Ms. Weiss ([email protected]).
FVMS Bands
Members of the FVMS Bands have many opportunities to perform. All three grade level bands put on three parent performances, essentially at the end of the 1st, 3rd and 4th quarters. In addition, the 6th grade performs for the rising 6th grade Open House in the Spring. 7th and 8th grade band students may choose to participate in Pep Band, which practices after school on Wednesdays and performs at two home football games in the Fall. The 7th and 8th grade students also perform the National Anthem at the FVHS "Festival of Bands" Marching Competition as well as a holiday performance in Centennial Square prior to the start of the Fuquay-Varina Christmas Parade. 8th grade students have two opportunities to perform with the FVHS Bands; one being "Middle School Night", performing the National Anthem at a football game with the FVHS Marching Bengals and the second sharing the stage at the FV "Pre-MPA Performance" in preparation for the bands' annual assessment. Students have the opportunity to audition for the Wake All-County Honor Band as well as the Central District (NC) All-District Honor Band. When time and schedules allow, students have the opportunity to perform in small ensembles. These small ensemble rehearsals and performances are dependent on the schedules of the students choosing to participate. There's so much you can do in band at FVMS!
Science Olympiad
Every year the Science Olympiad Team prepares for a Regional and State Science Olympiad Competition. Students build bridges, towers, planes, cars, and various other things testing their engineering skills. There are also other events like Water Quality, Anatomy, and Bottle Rockets. The group begins meeting in September and continues meeting every two weeks until the tournament in February. Usually the Science Olympiad team has around 30 students which make up the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. The Science Olympiad team welcomes all who have an interest in science and want to learn about the fun side of science! The sponsor is Mr. Corpening, 6th grade Science teacher ([email protected]).
Yearbook
Yearbook is an after school club open to all grade levels. Students take pictures for the yearbook and assist with the designing and planning of the yearbook. Students also assist with marketing, distribution and various other tasks related to yearbook. The sponsor is Ms. Rion, art teacher ([email protected]).
